Unser Sprachassistent Noah stellt sich vor

Hello All!

My name is Noah Nichols and I will be your new English teaching assistant for this school year. I am very excited to get started and properly introduce myself in my first lessons, but for now I’ll tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in the United States of America. More specifically, in a small city called Midland in the State of Michigan. When I was 18 I graduated from High School and moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan to attend University.

The University there was appropriately named the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. I graduated in December of 2021 with my bachelor’s degree and decided to apply to the Fulbright Austria program, which is what brought me this opportunity to move to Austria and teach you all in Hartberg!

Wow what else can I tell you about myself!? I will let you know some of my hobbies. I really enjoy being active. I go for walks, jogs, hikes, and swims as much as I can. I enjoy playing tennis, volleyball, and basketball.

I am also a big fan of nature. America has 63 National Parks, which are special areas of land with magnificently beautiful nature or scientific and historical value. It’s one of my goals in life to see all 63. So far I’ve only seen 17, so I have a long way to go, but I’m excited to show you all pictures of the ones I have been to.

Don’t worry I’m not all outdoors and sports! I also love seeing live music and watching movies. Some of my favorite music artists are Charli XCX, Mitski, Rosalia, The Magnetic Fields, Björk, Sufjan Stevens, Cocteau Twins, Sleater-Kinney, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and the list could go on… Feel free to give me any artist or song recommendations as well! I’m always on the hunt for new good music. As far as movies go, I really like everything.

My favorite movie is Heathers, a dark-comedy with a so-called “cult” following in the US. This means the film never gained mainstream popularity, but achieved critical acclaim or popularity among sub-cultural groups in the US.

Finally, I’ll end on a more serious note. To my fellow teachers: I hope that we will get to know each other well this year and have an excellent working relationship. Please feel free to use me as a resource if you have any questions about English, America or anything at all. I want first and foremost to be helpful to the school and to you all as the teaching staff.

And to the students: I hope that you will enjoy having me in your classrooms. It was not that long ago that I, myself, was a high school student, so I can understand and appreciate many of the experiences that may be taking place in your lives right now. I am excited to start teaching and am looking forward to an excellent school year.
