Language week in Galway
In the first week of school two classes (3 HLW and 2 AL) travelled to Ireland, more precisely to the city of Galway in the west of Ireland. After the flight from Bratislava to Dublin we took a bus to Galway. Halfway we stopped at Clonmacnoise, a famous former abbey by the river Shannon.
When we arrived in Galway, we met our host families who took us to their homes in groups of twos or threes. Immediately we went to our rooms and fell asleep after this long trip. Then a tasty dinner was served and we could finally talk and get to know our host parents a little better. They were very friendly, as are Irish people in general. Right from the beginning of this week we noticed how polite and kind Irish people are, so we didn’t feel like strangers.
In the mornings we went to language school. We learned some facts about Ireland and had a lot of fun with our lovely teachers. After lessons we enjoyed the free time to explore the city full of students and all kinds of music.
On the weekend we went on guided bus trips. The Cliffs of Moher and Connemara and the gardens of Kylemore Abbey were the main attractions; however, we were most impressed by the cliffs with stunning views and luckily neither mist nor rain.
On the last night we attended an Irish dance lesson and now master the art of Irish dancing ;)
On Wednesday we took a plane back to Austria (- we almost didn’t because many flights were cancelled because of a violent storm) .
Our trip was cool and interesting and we learned about the culture of Ireland and the city of Galway. We enjoyed the new experience and had a really nice time.
